The BRCA1 gene is located on chromosome 17q21, spans 81 kb and contains 23 exons. Constitutional abnormalities of these genes (which may range from point mutation to complex rearrangement) are generally associated with an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

The PXT1 kit allows the detection of quantitative genomic rearrangements of all sizes located in any region of the BRCA1 gene. The primers target each of the 23 exons of the gene and the promoter region.
